Stop Harassment from Creditors

You have rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act not be harassed.

This act states that:

Collectors cannot call before 8am or after 9pm.

Collectors cannot call you on your cell (as it is an expense to you).

Collectors must identify themselves and CAN NOT CALL REPEATEDLY.

Collectors may not threaten violence, harm or damage to debtor’s reputation.

Collectors may not threaten with legal action they do not intend to pursue.

Mail from a collector must be in a plain envelope and may not look or appear that it is from an attorney.

What to do of your right are being abused

Often citing the FDCPA rules and telling them to stop is enough to stop creditors from calling.

If not, document all conversations and contacts. If debt collectors violate the FDCPA regulations you should send a letter to the original collector, the state attorney general as well as the Federal Trade Commission at the Las Vegas Office.
